During our 2025 trip to Sri Lanka, we visited another remote village called Allakola, nestled within the beautiful Knuckles Mountain Range. The community consisted of families living and working on a government-owned tea plantation. Many earned only modest wages, leaving them with just enough to meet their most basic needs.

Despite their circumstances, we were deeply touched by the warmth, resilience, and generosity of the people we met. Their smiles reflected a spirit of hope and contentment that left a lasting impression on our hearts.

At the center of the community was a small school serving approximately 80 children. As we learned more about the challenges families faced in preparing for the upcoming school year, we felt compelled to help. We partnered with a local pastor who had faithfully led educational support initiatives in the village for many years.

Upon returning home to California, we launched a fundraising effort among family, friends, and supporters. Through their generosity, we were able to collect and send financial donations to Sri Lanka, helping provide school supplies and books for children in the village as they prepared for the new school year beginning in January.

This project reinforced our belief that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating opportunity and hope. We were honored to play a small part in supporting these students and investing in their future.

In November 2025, Sri Lanka was devastated by Cyclone Ditwah, one of the most destructive storms to impact the country in recent years. Having spent six months living in Sri Lanka just months before the disaster, the devastation felt deeply personal. As reports emerged of severe flooding, widespread displacement, and families losing their homes and belongings, we felt compelled to respond in whatever way we could.

The immediate need for basic necessities was overwhelming. Families who had already been living with limited resources suddenly found themselves without essential items such as clothing, shoes, bedding, towels, and school supplies.

In response, we mobilized friends, family, churches, and community members to come together in support of those affected. Through the incredible generosity of our local community, we collected, sorted, and packed more than 1,500 pounds of donated items, including clothing, diapers, towels, bed sheets, shoes, and school supplies.

In total, 38 boxes of humanitarian aid were shipped to Sri Lanka to support families displaced by Cyclone Ditwah. What began as a small effort quickly became a powerful demonstration of what can happen when people unite around a common purpose.

This project became one of the defining moments in Saminah's journey. It demonstrated the power of community, compassion, and collective action, while reinforcing our commitment to serving those facing hardship both locally and around the world.

Most importantly, it reminded us that hope can travel across oceans—and that even from thousands of miles away, a community can come together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
